Modi-Xi meeting to be a key diplomatic event during BRICS Summit

Modi-Xi Meeting: Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, which is the first time he has visited India in almost seven years. Xi departed from Beijing after receiving an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India will host the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.

During his stay, Xi Jinping will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chinese embassy in India confirmed that the preparations for the meeting with the leaders were being done.

Xu Feihong, China's ambassador to India, said China is ready to cooperate with India for the betterment of their bilateral ties and appropriate management of differences. He said both should enhance communication, cooperation and look at their bilateral ties from the perspective of long term and strategy.

The Modi-Xi meeting is very significant because India-China relations were badly affected due to the clash between the two countries last year in Galwan Valley in 2020.

On the contrary, ties have been slowly improving recently. Modi and Xi have already had face-to-face meetings in Kazan and Tianjin, and the current one is set to be focused on enhancing communication and cooperation between the two nations.

The Chinese President will be accompanied by a number of top-level officials, such as Cai Qi, a standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, and Wang Yi, the foreign minister of China and member of the Political Bureau. As per the itinerary, Modi and Xi are scheduled to have their bilateral talks at 5:45 pm today.

The spokeswoman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, said that the leaders are meeting for the third year in a row. China's stance that both nations should cooperate with each other, address issues appropriately and ensure good neighbourliness was reiterated.

The BRICS Summit 2026 has gathered the leaders of major emerging nations in New Delhi. The Modi-Xi meeting is considered to be one of the important diplomatic meetings during Xi Jinping's visit to India.
