Tu Hai Meri Kiran Movie Review: Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s Time-Travel Thriller Gets Lost in Its Own Plot

Tu Hai Meri Kiran Movie Review: Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal return to the screen together in Tu Hai Meri Kiran, a film that attempts to combine time travel, romance and psychological thriller elements. However, despite an intriguing central premise, the movie struggles to turn its ambitious idea into an engaging cinematic experience. Its confusing narrative, hurried transitions and problematic portrayal of obsession leave the film short of its potential. Directed by Karan Rawal, the film revolves around two characters separated by a decade who become connected through an unusual device. While the concept offers opportunities for suspense and emotional complexity, the execution fails to establish a convincing rhythm, making the story increasingly difficult to follow.

Tu Hai Meri Kiran Plot: A Phone Connects Two Different Timelines

The story begins in 2026, when Kiran, played by Sonakshi Sinha, discovers a flip-top phone that connects her to Samar, portrayed by Zaheer Iqbal, who is living in 2016. Kiran is happily married, while Samar is unemployed and develops an obsessive interest in her. Their unexpected connection across time sets off a series of events involving memories, mysterious occurrences and repeated shifts between the past and the present. The premise has the potential to create an engaging thriller. A communication device connecting two people separated by ten years could explore the consequences of changing events, the unreliability of memory and the possibility of altering the future. Unfortunately, the film struggles to establish clear rules for its time-travel mechanism. Instead of allowing suspense to develop naturally, it moves rapidly between timelines, leaving viewers with more questions than answers.

Confusing Writing Weakens the Film

One of the biggest problems with Tu Hai Meri Kiran is its screenplay. The film borrows familiar elements from time-travel stories, including mysterious objects, fragmented memories and unexpected developments. However, these ingredients do not come together into a coherent narrative. The frequent movement between past and present also affects the pacing. Rather than building tension, the rapid transitions make the story feel increasingly exhausting. The film's setting adds to the confusion. Hills, bungalows, carnivals and theatres feature throughout the narrative, but the different locations do little to establish a convincing atmosphere or a strong connection between the characters. A stronger script could have used these elements to create a more immersive psychological thriller. Instead, the storytelling often feels disconnected from the emotional stakes of the central relationship.

Samar’s Obsession Raises Questions

Another major concern is the film's treatment of Samar. Initially, his behaviour reveals a disturbing side to his character, including secretly filming the woman he claims to love. This could have provided an opportunity to examine stalking and obsession from a psychological perspective. However, the narrative appears to move towards familiar Bollywood romantic conventions, allowing Samar to justify his actions through the language of love. The shift weakens the film's potential as a psychological thriller. A more thoughtful approach could have explored the consequences of his behaviour rather than allowing romantic tropes to overshadow the seriousness of stalking. As a result, the character becomes difficult to understand, while the film struggles to maintain a consistent tone.

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s Performances

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, who previously worked together in Double XL (2022), lead the film. Their performances, however, cannot fully compensate for the screenplay's shortcomings. Kiran's position as a married woman caught in an extraordinary situation could have offered considerable emotional depth. Similarly, Samar's character could have become a compelling study of obsession and distorted romantic expectations. Yet the writing does not provide enough consistency or development to make these character journeys convincing. The supporting cast includes Ankit Gupta as Kiran's husband, Purnendu Bhattacharya as her stern father, and Zarina Wahab as Samar's mother. Their presence adds several family dynamics to the story, but these characters also struggle to make a lasting impact because of the weak narrative structure.

Tu Hai Meri Kiran Verdict: Rating and Final Thoughts

Tu Hai Meri Kiran attempts something ambitious by combining a time-travel mystery with a psychological thriller about obsession. Its central idea could have worked with stronger writing, clearer storytelling and a more responsible treatment of its troubled romantic dynamic. Instead, the film becomes trapped in confusing timelines, underdeveloped characters and predictable storytelling choices. Movie Details:

  • Movie: Tu Hai Meri Kiran

  • Director: Karan Rawal

  • Cast: Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal, Ankit Gupta, Purnendu Bhattacharya, Zarina Wahab and Sherlin Seth

  • Genre: Psychological thriller, romance, time travel

  • Rating: 1/5 stars

Final Verdict: Tu Hai Meri Kiran has an interesting premise but fails to deliver a satisfying thriller. Weak writing and an inconsistent narrative make it a disappointing watch, earning it just 1 star out of 5.
